Pensions Increase (Public service pensions are increased each year to take account of rises in the cost of living.)

The increase is the percentage rise in the Retail Prices Index in the twelve months up to September of each year.

This increase is the same rate as that applied to Additional Pension paid by the State pension Scheme.

Pensions increase is normally paid to pensioner's who are aged 55 or over: or have retired on ill health grounds (at any age): or receive a spouse's/child's pension.

If your pension began after April 2005 you will only be entitled to a proportion of the full increase.

At state pension age you receive a notice from the Inland Revenue which shows your Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP) this is because your pension may have been based wholly on service after 5 April 1978 and because the local government pension scheme is contracted out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (the Additional Pension provided by the State). Your GMP is already included in the total pension you receive from the West Midlands Pension Fund. From state pension age pensions increase is paid from two sources:
