Fraud Watch!
Every year, millions of
pounds of public money are lost through fraud, but now the authorities are
getting tough with those involved.
Some cases involve relatives or partners of a Fund pensioner carrying on receiving their pension after they have died. Others involve pensioners failing to disclose details of their Fund pension when claiming things like DWP benefits and housing benefit.
But now all over the country, cases like these are picked up through an exercise know as data matching. This is where the Audit Commission cross match information from various organisations, including ourselves, the DWP, other local authorities and so on. If it discovers potential fraud, these cases are then investigated further. As the fund which pays your pension, we are legally obliged to pass on this type of information, and are acting within the Data Protection Act 1998.
So remember, play it safe otherwise you could face having to pay money back or even prosecution.
